Caring for Your Exquisite Jamdani Saree

• Washing (Recommended Method):

  • Dry Clean Only: This is the safest and most recommended method for all Jamdani sarees, whether cotton, silk, or a blend. It helps protect the delicate weave, intricate Jamdani work (supplementary weft), and colours. Always inform your dry cleaner that it is a delicate, handwoven garment.

• Washing (If Necessary - Proceed with Extreme Caution):

  • If you must wash at home, use cold water only.
  • Use a very mild, pH-neutral detergent suitable for silk or delicate fabrics.
  • Do not soak for long periods. Gentle, quick handwashing is key.
  • Never rub, wring, or brush the saree, especially over the motifs, as this can snag or tear the delicate threads.
  • Handle with utmost care throughout the process. Rinse thoroughly with cold water until all detergent is removed.

• Drying:

  • Do not wring the saree to remove excess water. Gently squeeze if needed.
  • Roll the saree in a clean, absorbent towel briefly to remove some moisture.
  • Dry immediately in the shade. Avoid direct sunlight completely, as it can cause colours to fade and weaken the fibres.
  • Hang it lengthwise on a padded hanger or lay it flat on a clean surface to dry.

• Ironing:

  • Store your Jamdani saree folded neatly and wrapped in a soft muslin cloth or acid-free paper. This protects it from dust, moisture, light, and potential snags.
  • Avoid hanging the saree on metal hangers for extended periods, as the weight can strain the fabric, especially along the fold lines or shoulders.
